Volunteer Appreciation

Volunteer Appreciation

In our newsletter we recognize employees for milestones in their service, whether it be one year, two, five, ten or much more. I thought it might be prudent to recognize our volunteers as well.

I would like to tell you a little bit about Thor Higgins, he started volunteering at River’s Edge Resources when Marie Kirkham was managing the program with her coordinator Norberta Padaguan, and running things very efficiently.
Thor volunteered every Tuesday and Thursday, mostly mornings, but in some cases early afternoons too. He was, and still is, very consistent.

In the early years he would join us at Kensington Pool when we used to attend the aqua fitness exercise program. He would meet us at the pool as we often did not have enough room in the van, then he would take transit back to the program to help out.

Thor does not join us at the pool any more, but he does volunteer with the recycling programs at St Vincent’s, Langara & Holy Family Facilities of Providence Health Care, very consistently, still to this day, unless he is on vacation. We also hear from him that he has been volunteering at Haro Park Senior’s Facility for that length of time, if not longer. Thor is very dependable and gives independence true meaning.
