Update from the Choices Seniors Program

234 in Langley

We are so looking forward to “Spring” here at Choices and warmer temperatures so we can all enjoy more outdoor activities. On March 5th, Seniors and staff held a Seniors Group meeting and agreed to have our Spring lunch outing on May 15th at White Spot in Langley. Seniors are excited about participating and going out in the community to check out “Potters” and “Milner Gardens” to look at all the spring flowers that are blooming. We also are looking forward in planning more spring craft projects. In May we will be starting our garden plot.

Seniors enjoy all day outings scheduled every Tuesday. Staff alternates seniors every Tuesday so everyone has the opportunity to participate in all day outings. Choices will continue to schedule music class or special outing with River’s Edge. We enjoy having River’s Edge come out to Langley to visit us at the program.

In March, we are planning to change our Season Tree to “Spring” filled with cherry blossoms and decorate and brighten our activity room with spring flowers. Seniors and staff plan to trace, cut out, and colour variety of spring flowers. We look forward to Easter and will be doing some egg painting and having Spring tea with all sorts of goodies baked at program.

We continue to volunteer at Langley Lodge for music class on Monday’s afternoon – three seniors and staff participate in this activity. One of our seniors plays the piano and sings along with staff and seniors at lodge. We’ve been invite to join the annual volunteer appreciation evening on Wednesday, April 18 at Langley Seniors Centre. Every Friday afternoon we volunteer at Second Story Thrift Store; we have three seniors who help out with the sweeping, wiping down glass counters and collecting empty hangers from the clothing rack. After they complete their volunteer work they all enjoy going out for a tea and coffee.

Choices Seniors enjoy our Theme Board on “All About The World” using visual pictures to identify each country on the history, cultural, and traditional foods. In April we will spent time learning about China. In May, we also learned about Mexico we will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo on May 5th. In June, we will spend time learning about France. Each month we plan a traditional meal for hot lunch scheduled on Monday.

We continue to celebrate seniors upcoming birthdays with cake and music.

Our team Leslie, Sherry, and Maria are so looking forward to warmer sunny weather ahead so we can enjoy planning more outdoor activities.
