Update from Langley
This summer was an exciting time in Langley. Creative Options and Choices acquired a more convenient garden plot within walking distance of the program. Lepp’s Garden was kind enough to give us three accessible plots for the price of one for the year. We grew lettuce, carrots, a variety of peppers, sweet peas, and zucchini. Our harvest made for some healthy, hot lunch meals. We continued to harvest vegetables through the fall.
Some exciting things are going on for Crafty Creators. The girls have been extremely busy learning to crochet dish cloths and have made several packages to sell. They’ve also learned the art of cement crafting garden leaves. These leaves can either hang in a garden or make a beautiful bird bath. In addition, they’ve made a variety of fire bowls for the garden and outdoor table tops. The Crafty Creators received a large order and were able to fill it. They made a good profit from these leaves and other crafts. Anyone interested in placing an order can contact us at Creative Options or email manager Jacqueline van den Bosch who will provide you with a price list.
Creative Options, Choices, and Tenant Support held their annual summer BBQ at Bryton Park on August 25th. Everyone was excited about this event, it’s always a fun day with games and good food.
Choices celebrated the 66th birthday of one of the participants.
Choices Seniors’ program continues to volunteer every Monday afternoon for music class at the Langley Seniors Centre. We also volunteer every Friday afternoon at Second Story Thrift Store. During the summer months, we enjoyed meeting up with River’s Edge program for a picnic in the park. This fall, we met for a music class.
Special congratulations to Judith Coloma for receiving her five years service award. Judith came to FVSL as a practicum student and was hired on as a casual. She was recently the successful applicant for part time position at Creative Options and is fitting in quite nicely with the team.
Finally, on Friday, December 19, Creative Options hosted its annual Christmas Open House. Our Crafty Creators proudly displayed and sold their beautifully crocheted and knitted hats and dishcloths. As well, they also sold their unique leaf sculptures. These durable sculptures are made with cement and imprinted with real leaves. They can be used indoors or outdoors and make the perfect Christmas gift. You can purchase these items by contacting Jacqueline van den Bosch or send a private message via the Craft Creators Langley Facebook page.
