Program 163 Success Story

Schools out! And for one of the youth in our care, the school year is ending on a high note. It’s with great pride that I share his story.

He came into our care two years ago. When he joined us, he was heavily traumatized and was diagnosed with FAE and ADHD. His first six months with us were challenging – he had anger issues, had never seen TV, and had never been to school. Thanks to Lynn Vanier and our team’s level of dedication, care and persistence, he’s grown by leaps and bounds. He’s even watched his first movie – How to Train Your Dragon!

With lots of positive reinforcement, outings in the community, regular homework support, and counselling, he has made great strides since being in our program. He’s also connecting with his Indigenous roots. He’s been suppported by our local Coast Salish community, learning the Hul’qumi’num language, drumming, and creating Indigenous crafts.

He attends a local Indigenous school in the regular program. This year, he graduated on the Honour Roll. To celebrate his accomplishments, we presented him with a watch.

I am very proud of my team’s work with this youth. No one ever gave up on him, and because of that, he didn’t either.
