Choices Seniors Program, Langley
The Choices Senior Program is looking forward to the upcoming summer months as we are planning more community outings. During our quarterly Seniors Group Meeting, our Senior’s indicated that they would like to go out for more picnics. Their favourite places are Derby Reach Park, Sundell Park and Willam’s Park.
Seniors enjoy our all-day outings scheduled every Tuesday. Staff members alternate Tuesdays so everyone has the opportunity to participate in these fun outings. Choices will continue to schedule music classes and special outings with River’s Edge. We enjoy going out to nearby coffee shops, restaurants, parks and shops in our area. We are also working together in planning our annual summer BBQ at Bryton Park with Creative Options staff and peers to be scheduled sometime in August.
During last few months, Staff and Seniors at Choices have been keeping ourselves busy in helping out Creative Options with the garden plot. Every Wednesday and Friday we water our garden plot and use the vegetables for our hot lunch scheduled every Monday.
We continue with our theme board on All About the World using pictures to identify each country – its history, culture, and traditional foods. On our monthly calendar we schedule our weekly literacy class around All About the World and decide what meal to prepare for our hot lunch for Monday based on the country we are studying. In July we will be learning about Canada; in August on Australia and in September on Italy. Choices and Creative Options continue with our once a month OHS drills.
We also enjoy having a Creative Options person served volunteer in helping out the seniors at Choices in peer support on Thursdays and Fridays. We continue with our volunteer placements at Langley Lodge for music class, and Second Story Thrift Store.
Our Team at Choices Seniors Program staff – Maria, Sherry, and Leslie – wish everyone a wonderful summer with your family and friends. Just a reminder our program is closed from August 6th to the 10th and will re-open August 13th.
