Brain Injury Awareness Month

June is Brain Injury Awareness month and to celebrate, I want to applaud the tremendous courage of my client Stephanie. Her life flipped within a second. When she was a child, her family of five was involved in car accident, one that killed her father and one of her brothers. Stephanie and her other brother both suffered traumatic brain injuries.

Stephanie expressed to me that she would like to speak publicly about living with an ABI. The brain injury national campaign served as a perfect opportunity for Stephanie to become an advocate for survivors of brain injury. I have supported Stephanie over the past couple weeks to enter a video for the campaign highlighting the message that “not only living but succeeding with a brain injury is possible.” After a significant amount of hard work, the video has been completed and submitted.

She has taken all the barriers in her life and turned it into strength. As a brain injury survivor, she has become a true inspiration to many others.

Stephanie has received substantial support from peers and professionals along with new opportunities to continue as an advocate. The joy on her face was so rewarding to see as an SCLS worker. It’s moments like these when our clients are on the bridge of success is when we know that we are serving our clients and WJS Canada justly.
